Ryan Covey cracked a superb 149 as Liphook & Ripsley chased down Hartley Wintney’s 256-9 to beat their Southern Premier League Division 2 rivals by five wickets with ten overs to spare on the Cricket Green.
Returning from a spell at Alton, Covey just missed out on scoring a century in his comeback match at Portsmouth, being dismissed two runs short of his hundred at 98.
But he made no mistake at Hartley Wintney, hitting seven sixes and 20 boundaries, scoring his 149 off 87 balls.
The run chase wasn’t altogether straight forward as Liphook dipped to 79-3 at one point, but a 157-run stand between Cover and Chris Martin (57) took the visitors to the brink of victory.
Earlier, teenager Angus Brown (left above)(97) held the HW innings together after Sean Burton (3-53) and George Neave (2-50) had reduced the hosts to 93-5.  Rohan Dharmathilaka (42) and Danny Nightingale (46) aided the recovery before photographer Rob Nicklin (3-31), with his teasing off-spin, took the last three wickets, including that of Brown, whose innings included three sixes and ten fours.
