A 15-year old schoolboy off-spinner making his Premier League debut for Rowledge brought about Sarisbury Athletic’s three-wicket Southern Premier League Cup demise at Church Road.
Left-hand opener Sam Floyd (49) and Jordan Wright (45) eased the visitors to 100-1, but Ryan Littlewood (pictured) had Wright stumped and then clean bowled Floyd. Soon after he removed the prolific Josh Hill as Sarisbury sagged to 111-4.
Bowling in tandem with the experienced David Lloyd (3-23), Littlewood finished with 5-23 as Sarisbury collapsed to 149 all out. It was the Weydon School year 11’s first taste of adult cricket. He had never previously played anything higher than Under-15 junior cricket – but had Sarisbury in a terrible spin before going home early to finish his History homework.
Exeter University bound Jonty Sebborn (33) and Jake Wish (18) gave Rowledge a 52-run start before Rob Franklin (4-24) and Sam Hill (2-24) checked their progress. But Lloyd (41) reappeared to steady the ship before a mini-wobble saw three more wickets fall for 11 runs. It was left to Ethan Martin, another promising prospect coming off the Rowledge conveyor belt, to hit 17 not out and see his side to a three-wicket win.
