Teenager Sam Ruffell celebrated a maiden ECB Southern Premier League century as Alton emerged with a 'winning draw' from their visit to Totton & Eling - the result taking the Brewers to within one point of Bashley (Rydal) at the bottom of the table.
The 18-year old, who made a hundred 'guesting' for the Isle of Wight CB against Dorset in the week leading up to Alton's visit to Southern Gardens, made a career-best 115 as the Brewers totalled a healthy 280-7 declared off 59.3 overs.

Openers Freddie Egleston (20) and Ryan Hale (36) gave Alton a decent start on a tricky surface, Scott Myers (25) also making useful runs before becoming the second of three victims for Cambridge Blue Sam Beer (3-47).
Sam Ruffell looked comfortable at the crease and he and Dan Harris (29) added 70 runs in quick time to put Alton in a good position at 164-3 at lunch. A Brighton Mugochi brace reduced Alton to 182-5 soon after, but Ruffell and Tom South (33*) continued to play positively, the immediate past Lord Wandsworth College captain going on to hit three sixes and 13 fours before being caught in the deep for a superb 115.
It took a while for the Brewers to make inroads but 69 without loss became 89-3 when Boswell Chapungu (50) was bowled by Tom Varney (3-55). When Totton slipped to 123-5, Alton really were in the driving seat, but South African Josh Elliott (57*), Mugochi (32) and Josh Taylor (23*) denied the Brewers the sweet taste of victory, Totton closing at 233-
