Sarisbury Athletic are through to the National Village Cup quarter-finals after a three-wicket win over Cumnor Bears, their victory in Oxfordshire achieved with eight balls to spare.
A four-wicket spell by Tom Kitcher helped restrict Cumnor to 176-9, while Ricky Rawlins and Josh Hill provided the platform from which Sarisbury, cheered on by a large following from their ‘village’ in Fareham‘s western wards, were able to clinch their last eight place.
Big hitting Harry Ackland, who made 155 in Cumnor’s previous round victory at Binfield, top scored with 52 before the Oxfordshire champions slipped from 126-3 to 176-9, Kitcher taking 4-32 and Chris Sanders 3-29.
Sarisbury suffered an immediate blow when Sam Floyd, man of the match in each of the two previous rounds, went for a duck, but Rawlins (38) and Josh Hill (42) gradually put the run chase on an even keel. At drinks, they were 96-3.
Tom Mills (22) played his part, but Sarisbury lost seven wickets before Matt Journeaux (19 not out) and Jordan Wright (16) got them across the line.
