Josh Hill almost landed a hole in one when he planted a massive six-hit on to the ninth green of Southsea’s pitch and putt course to bring up Sarisbury Athletic’s six-wicket win over Portsmouth at St Helen’s.
The fourth maximum of his match winning 78, which took Sarisbury past Portsmouth’s 215-9, sailed over the wire mesh fence at wide mid-wicket and landed just by the flag on the dog-leg ninth.
Hill smacked four sixes and eight fours, sharing an unbroken century partnership with Andrew Ireland (33 not out) as Sarisbury romped to victory with almost eight overs to spare.
Skipper Ricky Rawlins (37) had earlier got Sarisbury’s reply off to a flier.
Portsmouth total had been built around Isle of Wight based left-hand opener Ben Duggan (70), whose innings averted a total collapse.,
They were 130-7 when he was run out but rallied to reach 215-9 through Pradeep Baines (43 not out) and Joe Kooner-Evans (27), left-arm spin talent Sam Hill taking 3-35.
