Celebrations rang out in the rival May’s Bounty dressing rooms as Basingstoke & North Hants seconds and Waterlooville toasted their respective British Gas Southern League Division 3 successes.
Basingstoke’s seven-wicket win, based around 99 by Scott Dyer (pictured by Neil Smith), clinched the runners-up berth behind the Ville, who picked up three bonus points they needed to become champions.
Ville made 191-9 (Archie Reynolds 39, Alex Shephard 39) but were blown away by a century stand between 14-boundary Dyer and Chris Oliver, who made 48 not out.
Jake Lilley (3-8) and teenager Tom Saunders (3-24) shared six of the wickets as Bashley (Rydal) II dismissed Purbrook for 111 (James Iles 61) to clinch third place with a seven-wicket win.
Simon Morris (35 not out) and Neil Thurgood (26) eased Bashley to victory. The Bash finished the season five points behind promoted Basingstoke & North Hants.
Hursley Park’s long spell as a Premier League club ended with a six-wicket defeat by Havant II, for whom Harry Gadd and Andrew Galliers hit fifties.
Bottom of the pile Hursley Park were dismissed for 161, Lee Wateridge making 50. HP won only three times, losing 13 and finishing well adrift at the bottom.
Fawley produced a creditable last-day performance at Holbury, making 243-9 (Callum Earl 64) after Gosport Borough had posted 243-9, including top scores by skipper Tom Larner (79) and Kiwi Mike Ruffell (74), the latter on his farewell appearance.
