Hampshire Seniors are through to the quarter-final of the ECB 50-plus County Championship after beating Wales by 51 runs at Bashley (Rydal).
Their reward is a home last eight tie against Gloucestershire at OTs & Romsey on Sunday August 14, 1300.
Charlie Forward (26) and Paul Burrows (33) gave the Seniors a solid start with an opening stand of 64.
Ably supported by Darren McBride (37) and the in-form Andy Parratt (51)[left] - who had made a Premier Division 2 century for Fawley the previous day – Hampshire made steady if unspectacular progress.
With contributions from skipper Stu Shapland (30) and Darren Vann (18), the Seniors posted a total of 232, former England ODI cricketer Matthew Maynard taking 4-35, principally in his second spell.
Keith Harsham struck in the first over when wicketkeeper Vann underlined his athleticism by taking a fine diving catch.
Iwan Rees (49) and Maynard (24) took the Welsh reply to 60-1, but after they departed, only Michael Cann (51) offered any real resistance, the innings falling away from 147-4.
Whilst mobility in the field in all 50-plus cricket might be called into question, six excellent catches were taken as Shapland (2-26) and Nick Gargaro (3-23) mopped up the tail.
* Hampshire Seniors entertain Sydney CC Golden Oldies at Totton & Eling on Thursday, `1300.
