Hampshire’s Academy side is eyeing a top four finish to the ECB Southern Premier League season after trouncing beleaguered Bashley (Rydal) by eight wickets at the BCG.
Tom Scriven, pictured by Terry Nash, hit an unbeaten 71 and took his season’s run tally to 524 after Bashley’s patched-up side had been shot out for 127.
Fielding only half the side that began the campaign with hopes of pushing on from the previous year’s success in winning the Time and 50-over pennants, they were seldom in the game.
Only Michael Porter (22) and Phil Morris (21) managed to score more than 20 as the Academy’s combined seam and spin attack controlled affairs.
Pace prospect Scott Currie and spin trio Mo Abbas, Felix Organ and Tom Prest took two wickets each.
Bashley did, at least remove Academy openers Organ and George Metzger – Kevin Nash, dragged out of retirement, having the Basingstoke teen caught at slip.
But from 10-2, the Academy took total command, with Scriven hitting 13 fours in a run-a-ball 71 and Fletcha Middleton scoring 40 not out. The pair enjoyed an unbroken 118-run partnership.
