It was if he hadn‘t been away …
Lymington vet Neil Trestrail hadn’t picked up a bat in almost 12 months since last September – but that didn’t stop him from making a match winning innings for the Hampshire Seniors in midweek.
Dusting any rust off his blade, Trestrail struck an unbeaten 58 to guide the Sixties to a five-wicket win over Oxfordshire at Ramsdell.
Chasing Oxford’s 159-8, Hampshire lost Mark Jackson and Phil Maunders before Geoff Beale (39) and 2019 Seniors Cricketer of the Year Trestrail came together for a partnership which took the Seniors to within sight of victory. Former Saints midfielder Graham Baker (19) completed the formalities.
Hampshire 50s top three batsmen Andy Giles, Andy Worth and Stu Shapland mustered only eight runs between them at Malmesbury, but New Milton’s Iain Griffiths (66) and over-age all-rounder Keith Harsham (44) rallied to steer the side to 165-6. Wiltshire made 141-9 in reply.
