The father and son combination of James and Ethan Taylor put a dent in Hartley Wintney’s Southern Premier League Division Two promotion prospects at Southern Gardens.
They shared an unbroken century stand as Totton steamed past Hartley’s 178-8 with 13 overs to spare – and only one wicket down.
Quirky fact: It was the highest father and son partnership in SPL history.
Mind you, it didn’t look as though the game would last anywhere that long with Hartley Wintney tottering at 31-5, until Jason Knibbs (62) was joined by Roy Cockram (23) to give the innings some substance. Except that, at 74-7, HW were back in the mire.
Enter chairman’s son Jonathan Kerr, who added 83 with the 20-year old South African, Kerr hitting a six and seven fours in his unbeaten 61.
The omens weren’t good for Hartley when Dimitri Adams (40) and James Taylor began with 67 – a position 18-year old Ethan improved in a 112-run stand with his dad. James finished with 65 and Ethan 51 … and an expensive evening of jug buying !
It was Totton’s sixth straight win and kept them clear of St Cross Symondians II, who trimmed basement boys South Wilts II by 13 runs in a high scoring encounter at Bemerton.
Hawkeye inventor Paul Hawkins top scored with 82 in Symondians’ 233-8 – a target South Wilts tried hard to match through the returning Paul Franklin (48), Rob Pittman (43) and Sam Litchfield (37). They were 220 all out.
