Oli May took a personal best 6-20 as Hook & Newnham Basics’ seconds chalked up a third successive Southern Premier Division 3 victory, beating Tichborne Park by five wickets at the KGV.
The win made Kevin Light’s side – promoted as Hampshire League Division 1 runners-up in 2019 – the leading point scorers, with 66 in SPL3 at the end of a rain ravaged opening month. They lie second in the log behind Hambledon.
Accuracy was the key for May, left, who took control after Lewis Watts had bowled danger man Tom Allam.
The Loughborough University graduate clean bowled three of his victims and trapped three others leg before as Tichborne plunged from 66-3 to 86 all out, the last seven falling for only 20 runs. Extras was top score with 29.
Will Allam took 3-19 as Hook slipped to 45-5 (Jordan Hobday 24) in reply, but some lusty blows by Lewis Watts (25) and Tom May (no relation) got them across the line without further loss.
