The 19-year old, who plays Gauteng Premier League cricket for Delfos in Johannesburg, struck five sixes and ten boundaries in his maiden 100, but Portsmouth chased down Ville’s 234-7 to win by two wickets ... off the last ball.
He shared a 138-run second wicket partnership with Alex Shephard (45) before skipper Sam Hillman pinged an unbeaten 38 to take Waterlooville to 234-7 off their 40 overs.
Ben Duggan’s 81 (one six/12 fours) underpinned Portsmouth’s run chase, which flourished alongside Jack Marston (48), but was checked by a four-wicket return by Conor Regan (4-36). Dan Wallis’s 53 not out eventually won the game for Portsmouth – just in the nick of time.
There were no such dramas at Bemerton, where Totton & Eling were whisked out for 66 (James Taylor 29) by South Wilts, Steve Warner taking 4-25 and Will Harries, newly arrived from Shrewton, 3-4.
West Australian Peter Rowe, who has been playing in the Cambridgeshire League for Ketton Sports, hit 44 of the 67 runs South Wilts needed to win by eight wickets.
