Jack Mynott’s return from Kenya has presented Ben Draper, South Wilts’ locum captain, with a tactical dilemma ahead of tomorrow’s Southern Premier League Cup match against New Milton at Bemerton, 12.30.
Draper has already inked Mynott in to open the batting and play a key spin bowling role – but his dilemma is where to place the versatile all-rounder in the field.
“He really is Jack of all trades,” quipped Draper. “We had a field plan set, but Mynott is a specialist at slip, cover, mid-wicket, you name it. Certainly one for me to ponder overnight.”
Mynott, who has spent the past two weeks in quarantine after flying back from his private school teaching post outside of Nairobi, returns alongside all-rounder Arthur Godsal and Steve Warner.
Raff Hussey hopes to cope with the pressure of playing against his former Green & Gold team-mates.
South Wilts: Draper, Mynott, Stearman, Godsal, Hussey, Grant, Harries, Warner, Wade, Burton.
Parley raised Harrison Clarke plundered 126 on his Totton & Eling debut against New Milton a fortnight ago – but he’s not playing against St Cross Symondians at Southern Gardens.
Instead, Totton are boosted by the return of the talented Taylor trio Jimmy, Ethan and Leo, although opening bowler Sam Beer has had to put his comeback on hold, having gone into quarantine following a Spanish holiday.
St Cross are without Harry Came, who is in Hampshire’s 13-man squad for the opening Bob Willis Trophy match against Sussex at Hove.

Charlie Ayers smashed a match winning 92 not out in that game, which Andover won by two wickets off the last ball.
Youthful Lymington are stumped for a wicket-keeper as Cameron Robertson is unavailable, so teenage seamer Josh Royan will probably don the gloves.
Veteran team manager and 2019 Osca winner Tony Wharton has been told by medics to ‘keep a low profile’ after a fall at Cadnam in midweek when he became entangled in the perimeter ground fencing.
Andover: Knight, Pope, A Ayers, C Ayers, Birks, Soutar, Hooper, Taylor, Veettil, Adams, Jansen.
