South Wilts are without influential all-rounder Jack Mynott as they bid to cling on to their trimmed nine-point lead at the ECB Southern Premier Division summit against fourth-placed Bashley (Rydal) at Bemerton tomorrow, 11am.
Mynott has been in good form with both the bat and ball lately, scoring a century off the Academy attack and 68 against Basingstoke & North Hants, and complimenting his runs with 13 wickets of off-spin.
Captain James Hibberd will be concerned Mynott’s absence will weaken a South Wilts’ top order which caved in at Burridge last week, the first six wickets crashing for 34 runs before the side stumbled to 118 all out and, ultimately, a heavy defeat.
That Burridge win cut South Wilts’ lead at the top from an overnight 30 points to nine.
Bashley, 16 points off top spot, were without seven first team regulars for last week’s draw with Alton.
But skipper Michael Porter welcomes back a host of regulars at Wilton Road, alongside seasoned campaigners Neil Thurgood (50 v Alton) and left-arm spinner Ross Grierson, who took 7-34 in the previous week’s surprise win at Havant.
Teenager wicketkeeper Patrick Lewis is bang in nick with the gloves, having snapped up eight dismissals in Dorset’s Under-17 county match against Berkshire at Wokingham in midweek. The unwell Brad Currie remains sidelined.
South Wilts edged a three-run win at Bashley in an early season thriller.
South Wilts: Hibberd, Morton, Cowley, Wade, Draper, Godsal, Hayward, Weld, Evans, Warner, Franklin, Murray.
Bashley (Rydal): Thurgood, Digby, Kennet, Porter, Morris, Jacques, Taylor, Wilson, Watkins, Lewis, Grierson.
Second placed Burridge go to winless New Milton, with teenager Ollie Southon bang in form with bat and ball.
The 17-year old quick ran amok against South Wilts, taking five of those six top order wickets and in midweek hit 80 for Hampshire Under-17s against Worcestershire.
New Milton: R Beck, L Beck, T Arnold, J Arnold, G Watts, J Haggaty, R Hussey, J Adams, O Wilmore, C Golding, N Gargaro.
Defending champions Havant have a batting crisis to overcome on the eve of a key weekend which sees them visit Alton tomorrow and entertain West of England Premier League leaders Clevedon in the ECB Royal London club championships on Sunday, 1pm.
Havant have been dismissed for less than 100 on three separate occasions this season, including twice in the past fortnight, 91 at Lymington last week and 96 against Bashley (Rydal) a week earlier.
But Havant are boosted by the return of Stu Ransley, Harry Gadd and left-arm spin all-rounder Chris Morgan.
Clevedon enjoy a clear lead at the top of the WOEPL, having won nine of their ten league matches this term.
Hampshire pair Ian Holland and Joe Weatherley have been listed to play for St Cross Symondians against Basingstoke & North Hants at the Green Jackets Ground, 11am.
But teenage batsman Billy Mead is ruled out with a back injury.
St Cross Symondians: T Foyle, Weatherley, Came, Holland, Ellis, H Foyle, Ayers, Bransgrove, J Aldridge, Woolvine, Mitchell.
Basingstoke & North Hants: Thane, Harsham, Williamson, Mayhanya, Albert, Vinn, Stokes, Griffiths, Benge, Thankachan, James
