Strike bowler Luke Evans has left South Wilts to join ECB West of England Premier League champions Potterne after “receiving an offer he couldn’t refuse.”
Evans, who has spent the winter months playing in Albany on Australia’s New South Wales/Victoria state border, has taken 94 wickets for South Wilts in the past three seasons, but only 21 last summer.
He was named Southern Premier League Young Cricketer of the Year in 2018.
Commenting on the move, South Wilts skipper Tom Morton said: “Clearly it is very disappointing to have lost Luke, he is a player who’s experienced much success over recent seasons at Lower Bemerton.
“He and his Grandad (Roy Honeybone) are popular members at SWCC and have a been a big part of our team, but unfortunately circumstances change and opportunities arise.
“However, this also presents opportunities to some of the other young seamers we have at the club, so whilst its disappointing it's also exciting to see some of them perform at SPL level.”
Ryan Murray has also left South Wilts to rejoin Hampshire League County Division 1 outfit Old Basing, where he played before being recruited by the Hampshire Academy.
But South Wilts are poised to announce several exciting signings for the upcoming season.
