South Wilts can only win, win well and basically hope as their bid to wrest the ECB British Gas Southern League title away from Havant lies largely out of their hands today.
Eighteen points from their final match at early season pacemakers Lymington will make Havant champions for a second consecutive season.
South Wilts must take a maximum-point haul from their own visit to St Cross Symondians.
Havant snared the Premier Division leadership for the first time this summer last weekend when an undefeated century by Stu Ransley set up a seven-wicket win over South Wilts.
“Stu’s innings was probably the finest I have ever seen under pressure in the Premier League,” said Havant skipper Ben Walker.
“Seeing it through from start to finish deserves all the accolades going.”
Not surprisingly, Havant take an unchanged, full strength side to Lymington, whose own line up at this stage is “uncertain” according to skipper Simon Beetham.
Havant: Walker, Ransley, Gorvin, Stone, Hindley, Gibson, Bulled, Matthews, Morgan, Prentice, Jerry.
Joe Cranch, who celebrated his maiden SPL hundred in the seconds’ win over Sparsholt last week, replaces Hampshire’s Ian Holland against St Cross Symondians at the Green Jackets Ground.
“Ian is understandably with the Hampshire lads at the NatWest T20 Blast at Edgbaston, but Joe will come in and do a fine job, as he always does,” SW skipper James Hibberd said.
South Wilts: Wade, Cowley, Mynott, Cranch, Draper, Hayward, Hibberd, Evans, Murray, Warner, Richards.
Third placed Bashley (Rydal) still have a remote chance of winning the title, but that would depend on them taking maximum points from the Hampshire Academy’s visit to the BCG and lead pair Havant and South Wilts both losing.
Bashley (Rydal): Porter, Thomson, Digby, Morris, Jacques, Holly, C Ridley, Wilson, P Van Wyk, Currie, Nash.
Academy: Tomlinson, F Organ, South, C Campbell, Scriven, Middleton, Kantolinna, Pardoe, S Currie, Searle, Z Organ.
Andover, 20 points adrift at the bottom, require a minor miracle if their one-season stay in the Premier Division is to be extended.
Basically, they must take a maximum-point haul from New Milton’s visit to London Road and pray that Alton are comprehensively thrashed at Burridge, where Jim Cunningham hangs up his pen after three decades of scoring.
They are at least boosted by the return of Sri Lankan Chamil Karunatatne, but injury keeps bowling partner Babu Veetil out of the firing line.
Andover: M Hooper, Arnold, Ballantine-Dykes, Carr, Treagus, Karunatatne, Knight, Blackburn, Romer-Lee, Dale, Adams.
New Milton: R Beck, L Beck, T Arnold, T Edwards, D Wakefield, O Shrubsole, G Watts, D Loader, R Hussey, N Gargaro, J Haggaty.
Alton are without England PD opener Alex Hammond and rugby playing seamer Toby Salmon at Burridge, where teenager Abhay Gonella and Ben Mortimer are called up from the relegation threatened second team.
Alton: S Myers, Gonella, Janmohamed, H Hammond, Harris, Mike Heffernan, Mark Heffernan, Jamison, J Myers, Mortimer, Ballinger.
