South Wilts teenage all-rounders Kit Blomfield and Matt Faulkner shone on Wiltshire’s recent Under-16 boys and girls tour to Sri Lanka.
Blomfield, who made an encouraging Premier Division debut for South Wilts against Burridge at the end of the 2021 season, was Wiltshire’s leading bowler, his off-spin reaping a 12-wicket reward and the accolade of being named Players’ Player of the tour. Faulkner, who struck an SPL2 half-century and celebrated a five-wicket haul for South Wilts’ second last season, made 188 runs at an average of 47, including a score of 80 which contributed significantly to one of Wiltshire’s three wins.
“The heat and humidity, together with the playing surfaces, presented extremely challenging conditions. Both lads adapted quickly, showing great determination and fitness levels, praised Tom Morton, Wiltshire’s Head of Talent Pathway, who managed the team.
““The tour was a great success. We take our u16 group to Sri Lanka every February, which is a fantastic experience for our boys and girls, both on and off the pitch.
“We played at three international stadiums, including Galle, P Sara and Dambulla, and also had the opportunity to participate in some wonderful things away from the matches, like seeing wild elephants, visiting temples and donating equipment and matting to schools in deprived parts of rural Sri Lanka.”.
Bowling award winner Lottie Car and Liv Smail, both from South Wilts, were members of the Wiltshire girls’ squad which won twice.
