International cricket is coming to South Wilts’ Wilton Road ground in two weeks time.
The local Premier League club is to host an Over-Sixties ‘Ashes’ one-day match between England and Australia on Friday July 28.
It will be the third ODI of the Series – and a potential decider – with the Australian tourists scheduled to play matches against Scotland and Wales before a host of games against English county vets sides.
Tim Mynott, who played for England 60s in their Ashes tour last winter, will be delighted to welcome local cricket supporters to watch the 50 over match on July 28, which precedes a gala farewell dinner at the Salisbury & South Wilts Sports Club.
He said: “The tradition of the rivalry in the England/Australia cricket Ashes translates into an exciting and hard fought Senior Ashes contest for Over 60 cricketers. The earlier games are at Blackpool and Kidderminster.
“It was a wonderful experience playing in Australia in the last Senior Ashes series in 2016 and we welcome Australia back to the UK. “Changes have been made on both sides as younger players have ousted older ones, like me, so many new friendships will be made after the sides have battled it out for the honour of being part of a winning Senior Ashes team.”
