Sparsholt captain Jeremy Frith came within a whisker of pulling off a notable Southern Premier League double this summer.
Pictured in action for his native Guernsey (by Martin Gray), Frith topped the bowling charts with 39 wickets – he took 6-21 against promoted Hartley Wintney and 5-43 v champions OTs & Romsey – and, going into the final round of matches, was also Division 2’s leading run scorer.
But he missed the boat after scoring only nine runs in Sparsholt’s last day defeat by Paultons, conceding the batting prize to St Cross Symondians’ Paul Hawkins, who finished just three runs ahead with 556, compared with Frith’s 553, which contained 109 against South Wilts II.
Leading Division 2 bowling figures: Jeremy Frith (Sparsholt) 39, Rob Pittman (South Wilts II) 37, Tom Pearce (South Wilts II) 28, Ethan Taylor (Totton & Eling) 27, Andrew Denney (Paultons) 26, Nick Doubell (Sparsholt) 26, Peter Lamb (Paultons) 25, Joe Vaughan (OTs & Romsey) 25.
