Ash Neal led the way with ball and bat as Basingstoke & North Hants powered to a nine-wicket win over Sparsholt, who are wedged in the Southern Premier Division 1 drop zone.
The interim Basingstoke captain sent down an immaculate ten-over spell, conceding only 19 runs and trapping Sparsholt top scorer Jeremy Frith (48) leg before.
He then dominated with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 81 in a century-plus partnership with Dubs Wood which carried Basingstoke past Sparsholt’s 162-9 with 17 overs to spare.
Ash’s elder brother Brad (2-20) played his part as a young and inexperienced Sparsholt fell away from a promising 93-1, wickets tumbling regularly once Frith departed at 108-3.
Matt Donaldson, Shantanu Shahne and Dubs Wood took two wickets each.
Basingstoke lost Richard Vinn at 35, but Wood, teenage son of former May’s Bounty favourite Julian Wood, and Neal took control after that.
With a six and 11 fours, Neal was the more dominant partner in a 126-run stand, but left-hander Wood looked in good nick, beating the Locks Lane boundary rope nine times on his way to an unbeaten 60.
