
Sparsholt became Hampshire indoor sixes champions for the first time when they beat Burridge and Hook & Newnham Basics to lift the Gerry Oxlade Trophy at the Ageas Bowl.
They chased down a Burridge total of 125 to win their semi-final by two wickets with four balls to spare – the two sides conceding a staggering 100 runs in extras, mostly wides.
Sparsholt conceded 53 sundries, while Burridge responded with 47 – only 51 runs being scored off the bat in the entire match.
Hook didn’t have to work too hard to beat neighbours Basingstoke & North Hants, whom they bowled out for 99.
Andy Neal (20) and Mandeep Sharma (18) top scored for Basingstoke, whose fast start was halted by Josh Balcombe and Sam Lockwood, who both conceded only 19 runs off their three overs.
Scoreboard pressure meant no fewer than four run-outs in the innings, with Harry Warner and Charlie Neville taking a wicket each to bowl Basingstoke out for 99.
Lockwpood (25) and 14-year old Alex Corbett got Hook off to a good start with a combination of extras and running taking the game away from Basingstoke.
Hook were home and dry after 9.1 overs two wickets down. Lockwood retiring and Alex Corbett, Harry Warner and Tom May making 15 each.
Sparsholt went on a run spree in the county final, with Josh Williams-Banks (32), Tom Ley (27) and Josh May (27) pointing the eventual winners to a thumping 150-5.
Tom May (42) scored almost half Hook’s 95, while Dave Banks and Oli Williams share four of the six Basics wickets.
Sparsholt now go forward to the ECB south-east play-offs at Beckenham, while its destination Taunton for Bashley (Rydal), who crushed Island champions Ryde by five wickets to clinch their place in the south-west regional finals.
Teenager Will Mew’s unbeaten 45 kept Ryde afloat, but with left-armer Sam Crisp taking two wickets and Michael Porter teasing out two more with his leg-breaks, the island champions could only muster 86-4.
