Sparsholt are rock bottom of Southern Premier Division 1 after a five-wicket defeat by New Milton – their third loss in a row.
To compound the misery, Sparsholt are of the Voneus national Village Cup – beaten by 43 runs in the county semi-final by Hampshire League side Bramshaw, who play three tiers lower in the pyramid (see separate article).
Jerry Frith (59) held Sparsholt’s top order together against some impressive seam bowling by Milton’s George Watts (2-19), whose economical ten-over helped reduce the hosts to 115-5.
Teenager Oli Williams (32), aided by Tom Ley (39) and Dave Banks (24), got Sparsholt up to 208-8 – but it wasn’t enough.
James Adams (69) and Ben Griffiths (28) put New Milton firmly in the driving seat at 124-2 before Toby Edwards blasted an unbeaten 59 - 46 of his runs coming in boundaries – and Joe Hall a more sedate 24 not out as the Green & Golds made 220-5 with time to spare.
