Annual accounts posted on the ECB Southern Premier League website, to be presented at tonight’s AGM being held at Totton & Eling, reveal the League suffered a financial loss in excess of £9,500 over the past accounting year.
Clubs will be told that the SPL’s balances have dwindled to £49,005, primarily due to the loss of two main sponsors, Southern Electric and more recently British Gas plc.
The absence of a significant commercial sponsor – only £2,500 was received in 2019 and £5,000 (2018) compared with £21,000 in each of the two previous years – means that the Development Fund utilized by clubs for ground improvements and the like is not being presently funded.
Furthermore, the League’s presentation dinner has run at a loss for three of the past four years, with shortfalls of £521 and £716 on two of the functions.
The ECB’s contribution for Premier Division cricket has remained at £10,800 for the past eight years, with the SPL itself receiving £6,765.
