St Cross Symondians, Time pennant winners
Standing (from left): Alex Ayers, Harry Foyle, Jimmy Adams, Matt Stokes, Steve Mitchell, Jack Bransgrove. Front: Billy Mead, Harry Came, Tom Foyle, Ed Ellis, Sheila Boniface (scorer), Ian Holland.
The Time pennant is in the trophy cabinet. Now St Cross Symondians after the biggest prize of the lot – the ECB Southern Premier League championship !
Six wins from nine matches gave the Winchester club the ‘flag’ for having the best record in all-day cricket.
Tomorrow, when the ‘white ball’ 50-over programme resumes, St Cross Symondians go to Havant (12.30) - ironically, aiming to break their duck in limited-overs cricket.
Despite their success in all-day time cricket, St Cross lost their initial three ‘white ball’ matches in May, although they did break their season’s duck with a crushing nine-wicket victory over Havant when the longer games began.
St Cross turn into the home straight trailing leaders South Wilts by nine points, but they will once again have Hampshire pair Jimmy Adams and Ian Holland in their line-up.
Adams has made centuries in both his last two matches against Burridge and Bashley (Rydal).
Influential all-rounder Matt Stokes has, however, played his final match of the season for St Cross. The Channel Island talent is preparing for Guernsey’s upcoming World Cricket League group matches in Amsterdam.
