St Cross Symondians still need a maximum of 11 points from their final match of the season against Bashley (Rydal) at the Green Jackets Ground on Saturday (11.30) to be assured of finishing runners-up behind newly crowned ECB Southern Premier League champions South Wilts.
Bournemouth’s win over the Hampshire Academy has kept the Dorset club in second place contention, though St Cross may need less than 11 if they fail to take maximum points from their visit to Havant.
St Cross brought out the heavy armoury at Botley Road, with county pro’s Harry Came, Felix Organ and Joe Weatherley all playing a role in the 114-run victory at Burridge.
Came (56), who hit a maiden half-century for Derbyshire against Nottinghamshire earlier this month, took St Cross just beyond the 100-mark, enjoying a fruitful partnership with Organ before Weatherley – making his first Symondians appearance since July 2018 – made 64.
With helping hands from Ed Ellis (22) and Harry Foyle (22) St Cross went on to post 222-7, with Sully White and Will Donald producing tidy bowling returns.
The Burridge top order was blown apart by South African Michael Booth, whose three-wicket blast with the new ball underlined why Warwickshire are interested in his services. The 20-year old Hilton College educated Durham University student is playing for the Bears in the current Second XI Championship match against Worcestershire at New Road.
Booth, with 3-11, got Azim Chowdhury and Hilio De Abreu for first ball ducks either side of dismissing the broken fingered Joe Collings-Wells to leave Burridge in tatters at 18-3 and later 47-5.
Only left-hander Will Donald, who made an unbeaten 40, put up much of a fight as leggie Alex Woolvine took 3-39 to leave Burridge 108 all out.
