St Cross Symondians have signed Lymington batsman/wicketkeeper Ed Ellis in a player/coach role for the upcoming ECB Southern Premier League cricket season.
The move marks a return to his Winchester roots for the 22-year old, who cut his teeth in local cricket with Sparsholt before joining Lymington in 2012.
Now a regular in Dorset’s Minor Counties Championship side, Ellis’s cricket has really developed in the past two seasons, scoring close on 1,000 Southern Premier League runs for Lymington, including two eye catching centuries against Bashley (Rydal).
He was part of the Oxford team which won the MCCU Challenge Cup in 2016, having lost the BUCS final to Loughborough the previous season.
Ellis picked up a Sports, Coaching & PE combined with Business Management degree at Oxford Brookes University and currently works as a lead hockey coach at St Edwards’ School.
He plays regularly for Oxford Hawks, who are favourites to win the South Premier Hockey League and earn promotion to the Western Conference next season.
Reflecting on his decision to switch cricket clubs, Ellis said: “'It has been a tough decision to leave Lymington as I have so many fond memories at the club, but I am excited to step up to a new challenge at St. Cross Symondians, a club with a group of extremely talented cricketers with huge potential.”
“I will be 1st XI player coach and in charge of club development throughout the senior teams.”
Ellis will make his St Cross Symondians debut against the Hampshire Academy at the Green Jackets Ground on May 5.
