Message from Matt Perry-Lewis -
As you are all well aware, we lost one of ours from the cricketing family earlier this year - the legendary Steve 'Badger' Green of Easton & Martyr Worthy and well beyond.
In memory of 'Badger' and to support his two charities, The British Heart Foundation and young cricketers locally, we have organised a sponsored walk on Sunday 16th July. We very much hope that you will feel able to take part and we are definitely hoping for a great turn-out!
Essentially, the full walk is approximately 12 miles and will take in the four local cricket clubs that featured more than any in Badger's distinguished cricket career. We will meet at Sparsholt Cricket Club at 8.30am in preparation for the walk that will start soon after.
From Sparsholt, we'll head south-west towards Pitt and take a left turn onto The Clarendon Way. We'll walk through South Winchester Golf Club, Olivers Battery, on through the old Bushfield Camp site and on to St Cross Cricket Club. We will then take something of a pit-stop at St Cross, which is approximately half-way, before embarking on the second half of the walk. Light refreshments will be available at St Cross. The second half will take in what was Winchester Cricket Club (North Walls). We will then head out towards The Cart & Horses in Kings Worthy, before completing the final leg to Badger's beloved Easton & Martyr Worthy Cricket Club, hopefully by 2pm.
We would be delighted if you are able to commit to the whole walk. However, we would be very happy for you to undertake part of the walk. We already know of a number of people who want to support but who will only walk from The Cart & Horses to Easton & Martyr Worthy CC. This is not a problem.
A T20 match is being organised at Easton for about 3pm, give-or-take! This will feature a Shaun Green XI vs an Easton & MW XI. It should be memorable! A bar will be open all afternoon and food will be on the go.
Primarily, this event is about the memory of Badger and bringing together as many people in his life as possible to have a good time. However, the walk is also about raising money in Badger's memory! We would like to suggest a flat fee of £20 per person, to be paid in advance, regardless of the length of the walk undertaken! Of course, if you would like to contribute more, or chase sponsors, please do so. Also, we would be delighted to receive donations if you are unable to make the walk on the day.
We have created a webpage for the walk on the Stragglers website, with a link to the Just Giving page for you to sign up or just make a donation. Alternatively, follow the link below to confirm your participation and/or contribute: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/adam-murch-1
Ideally when you visit the Just Giving page, please confirm whether you will be walking, or just donating. This will make it easier for us to gauge numbers for catering etc. Please state something like below, although quote your own name (hee, hee!):
Stuart Marks - Full Walk
Stuart Marks - From St Cross
Stuart Marks - From Cart and Horses
Stuart Marks - Donation only
I think that is all for now. the walk is less than three weeks away, so please do get on and sign up/donate, or just domate. Many thanks.
