Ross Stewart toasted a league best 5-20 return and wicketkeeper Richard Featherstone celebrated his 100th Southern Premier League dismissal as Fair Oak thrashed Bashley (Rydal) II, the overnight leaders, by eight wickets to soar to the top of the Division 3 table.
Stewart ran amok with the new ball, removing Bashley’s top five with only 24 runs on the board.
There was no respite for Bashley even after Stewart’s ten-over spell had ended – left-armer Gregor McKenzie taking the sixth wicket before Andy Mash (2-11) and spinner Charlie Gwynn (2-14) cleaned up the tail.
Featherstone, struggling with gout, snapped up five catches to bring up his wcket-keeping century.
Only Harry Anstee and teenager Tom Saunders got into double figures as Bashley sank to 59 all out.
Will Hughes and Tom Hockenhull perished without scoring when Oaks replied, but Gwynn’s unbeaten 35, aided by three Phil Smith boundaries, steered Fair Oak to victory – and top spot after a third league win.
Relegated last season, Hambledon narrowly lost their opener to Fair Oak, but have since strung together three wins, the latest by seven wickets over visiting Purbrook at Ridge Meadow.
Former King Edward VI school captain Rory Morris (4-14) and one-time Hampshire left-arm spinner Ian Turner (3-24) combined to dismiss Purbrook for 16 (Sean Figgins 41).
Hambledon lost three wickets before opener Simon Barnard, with a patient 44, and Henry Glanfield, with an unbeaten 63, shared a match-winning century stand.

Through Callum Earl (59) and Adam Freeman (26) Fawley limped to 158 all out.
