St Cross Symondians all-rounder Matt Stokes has played the lead role in helping his native Guernsey to win doubles over Vanuatu and Tanzania in the ICC World League Division 5 tournament in Jersey. Bowling medium-pace, he took 2-23 as Vanuata (an island in the Pacific Ocean) were restricted to 127-7 - a total Guernsey polished off, with Stokes making 34*. Stokes, pictured left, then hit an unbeaten 44 as Guernsey cruised to an eight-wicket win over Tanzania (108), but will need to recharge his batteries for the next match against Nigeria. Potential 'title' decider games against Jersey and favourites Oman loom large later this week. |
