Only our wonderful game of cricket could throw up such a bizarre happening as this !
A fortnight ago, Lymington chief of staff Neil Trestrail cracked an unbeaten 121 to lead Hampshire Seniors to a ten-wicket victory over the Channel Islands in the ECB 50-plus County Championship.
Yesterday, the MCC man and Hampshire Cricket Members Chairman fell to a superb leg-side stumping off the very first ball of the innings as Hampshire set out to overhaul Somerset's 88 all out at Gosport's Privett Park.
To add to Trestrail's embarrassment, he was stumped off a wide !
Earlier, a remarkable collapse saw Somerset nosedive from 56-1 to 89 all out, with left-armers Kevin Poulter (5-24) and Nick Gargaro (4-8) sending nine wickets crashing for 32 runs.
Hampshire wobbled losing four wickets, but were guided home by skipper Chris Wheeler 34 not out.
It was Hampshire's second win. They play thee Isle of Wight in Ventnor's Steephill bowl next Wednesday, 1pm.
Hampshire’s 70s team play at Cadnam this/Thursday afternoon.
