Former Hampshire batsman Derek Kenway lit up Andover’s London Road ground with a stunning century – but it was the Lions who roared to a remarkable one-wicket victory on the back of two fine individual performances from the Hooper brothers.
Burridge, on the back of Kenway’s 101, looked to have the game in the bag with Andover, needing 225 to win, seemingly down and out at 117-8.
But the Lions’ tail wagged furiously with Andover skipper Matt Hooper hitting an unbeaten half-century and piloting his side to their first Premier Division win of the season.
Kenway, in stunning early season form, struck six maximums and 11 fours in his 101 – 80 of which came in boundaries !
He shared a second wicket stand of 188 with Joe Collings-Wells (77), but Burridge contrived to lose their way and with Mike Adams taking 3-30, finished one run short of maximum batting bonus points at 224-6.
Ali Hooper, left, with a six and seven fours in a belligerent run-a-ball 65, steered Andover’s reply to 83-2 – but then the innings caved in.
Nick McMurray (2-38) and Lee Savident (3-31) ripped out the middle-order … all except Matt Hooper, who launched a stirring comeback.
He added 55 with ninth-wicket partner Mike Adams (32) and then a second unbroken half-century stand with Danny Foy and finished with 53 not out as Andover pulled off victory with four balls to spare.
