League leaders Totton & Eling suffered a 58 run defeat away to Liphook & Ripsley, thanks largely to an outstanding display with bat and ball by Suman Ganguly.
It was the only Division 2 match of nine they had not won this season. Ganguly hit 100 before taking three top order Totton wickets.
Liphook lost Harry Munt cheaply for 7 before Rob Nicklin [38] and Ganguly put on a commanding partnership of 143. Nicklin showed exceptional application whilst Ganguly dispatched the ball to all corners of the Ripsley Park ground. His ton, including 10 fours and six maximums, was completed in 101 mins and 104 balls before being trapped leg before by Brighton Mugochi [2-36].
George Neave chipped in with a brief 17. It was then left to Jonny Pryce with a six-boundary 41 to hold the Liphook innings together until his dismissal in the final over. The Ripsley Park outfit closed on 254-7.
Ganguly opened the bowling for the home side and soon destroyed the Totton top order, trapping lbw both the experienced Jimmy Taylor [0] and Owen Morris [2]. He also had Dimitri Adams caught behind by Munt for 20. Totton 63-3.
Zimbabwean pair Bothwell Chapungu [36] and Brighton Mugochi (37) alongside Ollie Thomas (35) gave hope for a Totton revival but as each got on top another wicket fell. Dave Elliott [2-23], Daniel Harvey [2-40], Sam Harvey [1-17], Rob Nicklin [1-20] and Chaz Janczur [1-52] shared the spoils to leave the visitors all out for 200 in the 47th over. Spirits were deservedly high in the home dressing room.
