Mike Swain hit an unbeaten 93 and shared a 120-run partnership with fellow left-hander Geoff Beale (57) as Hampshire Seniors opened their Seevent National Sixties Cricket Championship challenge with a seven-wicket win over Devon at Instow.
They chased down Devon’s 237-3 (Julian Paige 105) to win with 13 balls to spare, Chris Yates hitting a key 38 not out in the run chase.
Hampshire's next match is against Gloucestershire at Hursley Park on Tuesday, 1pm.
Hampshire’s 60’s second team was also successful, Charlie Prendergast (5-31) and John Knight (4-21) doing the damage as Surrey were dismissed for 133 at Horsley & Send.
Hampshire wobbled at 48-4, but Peter Green (34) and man-of-the-match Prendergast (21) steadied the ship and plotted the victory route.
