Tom Willoughby opens up (James Robinson)
Tasmanian Tom Willoughby hit a maiden Bournemouth century to set up a 111-run victory over Totton & Eling which secures the club’s ECB Southern Premier Division future.
The 21-year old left-hander from Hobart scored 113 and shared in a meaty 168-run opening partnership with Luke Webb (59) as Bournemouth posted 241-9 before bowling Totton out for 130.
The victory put an end to any lingering fears that Bournemouth might sucked into a relegation scrap following the 25-point deduction the Premier League imposed earlier in the season when the opening match on May 7 against Hook & Newnham Basics at Chapel Gate was abandoned due to a dangerous pitch.
“We’re playing well just now and beating Totton was our third win in a row,” smiled skipper Chris Park.
“We’re all delighted for Tom. He’s made starts time and time again without going on to make a big score, which he did against Totton.”
Willoughby hit 14 fours in his 113 but, after that fine opening stand, had to hold the innings together as spin trio Harry Stephens (4-32), Bothwell Chapungu and Brighton Mugochi made constant inroads. He was eventually sixth out at 235.

The left-handed Chapungu (60) similarly glued Totton’s reply, losing opening partner Stephens (17) and later Owen Morris (14) both bowled by left-arm spin talent Conor Smith (2-30).
