Promising Havant and former Hampshire Academy all-rounder Andy Gorvin, 18, has made an encouraging start to his winter season in Melbourne, where he is playing for Camberwell Magpies in the demanding arena of the Victoria Premier Cricket League. A right-hand batsman and medium-pace bowler, Gorvin has been in the Hampshire junior age group sides since 11 years of age and will spend the next six months in Australia prior to accepting a place at Durham University. He made his Second Grade debut against South Melbourne, taking the first three wickets for a 3-53 return as the host made 226. Gorvin followed up his three-wicket spell with an unbeaten 36 which got the Magpies home by five wickets. Camberwell play their Grade matches at the historical Collingwood club – they are the Manchester United’s of Aussie Rules football – and Gorvin is due to turn out in the second grade today. |
