A dramatic collapse by the Hook & Newnham Basics late order gave
Liphook & Ripsley what had seemed a very unlikely 12-run British Gas Southern Premier Division 2 win at KGV.
Neither side had an individual innings powerful enough to win the game.
Batting first, Liphook could muster only a bits and pieces 191 with Ryan Covey top scoring on 31. Opening the bowling on his league debut, teenager Rupert
Armstrong impressed with 4-36. Seasoned left-arm spinner Kevin Poulter took a late 3-33.
In reply, Hook seemed to be in control, opener Ben Thane (52), being supported by Jordan Hobday (31) and skipper Matt Love (27), who was controversially given out caught and bowled when what appeared a beamer was bowled at him.
Love’s dismissal at 165 clearly unsettled Hook and when Suman Ganguly bowled
Josh Buckingham 27, the runs dried up.
The fiery George Neave, pictured, who was involved in Love’s dismissal, returned with two further victims to finish with a league best 5-43. Five wickets fell for just 30 runs, the final four in 2.2 overs. Wicketkeeper Harry Munt claimed his fourth victim catching Divecha off Mainak Ray to leave Hook high and dry, and Liphook celebrating a second win.
Tichborne Park were involved in a second consecutive tight finish. Having been pipped by one run by Sarisbury Athletic, they beat Rowledge by eight runs, the Surrey border club twice allowing good positions to slip from their grasp.
They had Tichborne struggling at 118-6 (Joe Randall 3-35), but Will Allam (51 not out) and Jack Skinner (31 not out) added a crucial 85 to raise the target to 203-6.
Rowledge regained the initiative with an 80-run opening stand between Nick Morant (45) and Tom Gleave (36), but no one else got above 20 as Tom Allam took 3-21 to dismissed the hosts for 195.
