Tension is building at the foot of Southern Premier League Division 3, where three clubs are battling to avoid being relegated alongside Lymington seconds.
Promoted Fareham & Crofton (156 points) and Portsmouth & Southsea (effectively 144) are the most vulnerable, but Trojans (161) are sliding into the mire with their August 24 showdown with P & S a potential ‘six pointer’.
Portsmouth & Southsea have won their last two games, upsetting promotion challengers Fawley and last weekend Tichborne Park.
Jack Peach (4-35) and Chris Turrell (3-15) rolled Tichborne Park out for 120 – a target P & S chased down with in-form Oli Kanavan, pictured, hitting an unbeaten 60.
It was the young batsman/keeper’s fourth fifty-plus score of the season and took his run tally to 412, second behind Fawley’s Sufian Munir in the SPL3 charts.
Fareham lost by 57 runs to visiting Hambledon, whose 247 owed much to the le Clerq brothers, Spencer (70) and Lewis (29), George Marshall (40) and Mark Butcher (40).
Dan Wimble swatted 63 to give Fareham a promising start, but Lewis Barber’s 3-18 return checked progress and they were all out for 190.
