THE UP'S AND DOWN'S OF PROMOTION & RELEGATION

23/8/2021

South Wilts and Totton & Eling have been confirmed as champions of their respective Southern Premier League divisions following the completion of their round 17 matches, while three of the seven relegation positions are also known.
The SPL’s very own ‘Statto’ Stephen Jones outlines the rest of the potential up’s and down’s -
Premier Division
South Wilts are champions
St Cross Symondians require 11 points from their final match v Bashley (Rydal) to finish runners-up
Alton are relegated
Division 1
Totton & Eling are champions
Runners-up either New Milton (home to Totton & Eling) or Calmore Sports (home to Basingstoke & North Hants), depends on result of round 18 matches.
St Cross Symondians II are relegated.
The second relegation place will hinge on the round 18 results, Andover (v St Cross Symondians II) and the Southsea seafront showdown Portsmouth (currently ninth) and Sarisbury Athletic (seventh), with the loser relegated if Andover win.
Division 2
There are still five teams in the hunt for promotion, not least as none plays any of the others in round 18.
Leaders Liphook & Ripsley are almost certainly promoted; need 1 point to ensure finishing in 2nd place even if OTs & Romsey get maximum points, and will be champions if they match Ventnor’s result.
Ventnor will be promoted with 10 points from their last match (home to South Wilts II), and champions if they win and Liphook lose to Bashley (Rydal) II.
OTs & Romsey: promoted if they win (v Paultons) and Ventnor lose, and champions if they get 22 and Liphook get 0 as well.
Fair Oak: promoted if they win (home to Fawley), Ventnor lose and OTs lose.
Hartley Wintney: a “mathematical” chance of promotion e.g. with a maximum points win, Ventnor gain 5 points or fewer, OTs lose and Fair Oak lose.
Paultons are relegated.
South Wilts II relegated unless they win (at Ventnor) and Fawley lose.
Fawley relegated if they lose and South Wilts II win.
Division 3
Hambledon and Hook & Newnham Basics II promoted
Hambledon will be champions if they take three points from their last match at Basingstoke & North Hants II, that is if Hook II get maximum points at Trojans.
Tichborne Park are relegated.
Hythe & DIbden will be relegated unless they win (against Tichborne Park) and Purbrook lose to Gosport Borough.
Purbrook will be relegated if they lose and Hythe & Dibden win.
Hampshire League
Leaders Havant II still need another 7 points to become champions. They visit Easton & Martyr Worthy.
Fareham & Crofton require 23 points from their visit to St Cross Symondians III to overhaul Sway, who have completed their fixtures (They were due to have played Bedhampton in round 17).
