Fresh from making his Vitality T20 Bash debut the previous evening, England Under-19 all-rounder Tom Scriven led the Hampshire Academy to a six-wicket win over Alton at the Jubilee Ground.
Scriven bowled only one over in Hampshire’s Ageas Bowl victory over Gloucestershire, but played the lead role against the Brewers.
He struck in his very first over, trapping Alton opener Michael Heffernan leg before for a third ball duck.
He later hit an unbeaten 75 as the Academy comfortably chased down Alton’s 170 to win with nine overs to spare.
Alton rallied after that initial setback with Joe Paul (37) and Scott Myers (31) lifting their score to 105-2.
But a Premier League best spell of 4-28 by Waterlooville’s Sonny Reynolds, aided by some tight support bowling, saw Alton nosedive to 170 all out.
Scriven hit eight boundaries in his steady 75, sharing fruitful partnerships with Felix Organ (20) and Fletcha Middleton (21) as the Academy homed in on victory.
