Tom Friend smashed an unbeaten 101 off 88 deliveries, including three big sixes into the adjoining woodlands, as Bashley (Rydal) went on a 294-run scoring spree before beating Hook & Newnham Basics at the KGV.
While Friend was at the crease, Bashley scored almost 200 runs – their score rising from 97-3 to 294-7, with 110 coming off the final ten overs – with Tom Jacques (21) and Sam Stroud (24 not out) adding to Hook’s woes.
He walked to the middle with the visitors already in a strong position after a decent partnership between Harry Fisher (61) and right-hander Jacob Gordon (49), whose hopes of a half-century were dashed when Sam Kennett supplied him with a fresh pair of left-hand batting gloves.
Confused, Gordon proceeded to run himself out and had to content himself by watching Friend hit three sixes and nine fours to bring up his second Southern Premier League hundred for Bashley.
While Friend took a breather, Sam Stroud teed off with 24 off ten balls.
Hook & Newnham Basics face the prospect of being without Aniket Divecha in the coming weeks after the influential off-spinner pulled up lame during the 137-run beating by the ECB Southern Premier Division champions.
Divecha, who took his 380th league when he bowled Bash skipper Michael Porter round his legs, had to leave the field with a back injury after he had bowled his eighth over.
With 1-21, he was the pick of the Hook bowlers, who otherwise were grilled in the early June sunshine.
Already minus the injured Ben Thane and Matt Love, Hook’s aim was to just garner as many bonus points they could – and losing Sam Lockwood first ball to Ben Fletcher didn’t help.
Richard Willcock (34), Jordan Hobday (31) and latterly skipper Josh Buckingham (38) rallied before Poole Town raised teenager Sam Crisp (3-35) wrapped up the innings at 157.
