Tom Gates celebrated his Hythe & Dibden return with a century which set up the Watersider's thumping 131-run Southern Premier League Cup win over Langley Manor.
Gates, left, who missed Hythe's opening up defeat by Trojans, underpinned his side's 219-8 with 101. The Manor collapsed to 88 all out.
He certainly put bat to ball, cracking four sixes and 13 fours, holding the Hythe innings together after spinner Nick Doubell (3-43) had played a significant part in four wickets tumbling for 16 runs and the visitors from a healthy 88-1 to 104-5.
Gates was out soon after reaching his hundred, leaving Alex Nicholas (31) and Fabio Roberts (30 not out) to hoist the eventual total to 219-8.
Langley Manor quickly ran into trouble against Tim Ndowara (4-24) and only Steve Harris (21) made any impression as they were bundled out for 88.
Some powerful hitting by Gregor McKenzie was instrumental in bludgeoning Fair Oak to a five-wicket victory at Lapstone Park. The Fisher’s Pond-based left-hander flayed the OTs & Romsey attack for 44 runs in just 15 balls, including a huge six that cleared the sightscreen by ten metres.
Spin all-rounder Joe Vaughan did his best to halt the home side’s progress with 3-13, but Ed Kemp (34*) steered his side to victory in the 26th over with four home batsmen still in the hutch.
Earlier, OTs & Romsey had complied a distinctly under-par score of 115 in 34.2 overs with the main contributions coming from Vaughan (27) and Charlie King (32*). Oaks speedsters Jimmy Hawkings (2-26) and Ben Smith 3-21 as all of the bowlers turned in economy rates of four less per over. Leggie Rufus Bullough (2-14 in six overs) also had good reason to be pleased with his afternoon’s work.
