High flying Fair Oak have strike bowler Andy Mash back for tomorrow’s potentially testing Southern Premier League Division 3 meeting with South Wilts II at Lapstone Park.
Mash missed last week’s remarkable 117-run victory over Fawley – a result brought about by an astonishing stand by ninth-wicket tail-enders Gregor McKenzie and Richard Featherstone.
The pair came together with Oaks wobbling at 107-8 and added 142 – McKenzie hitting seven huge sixes in his 98 off 51 balls before being stumped. Fair Oak went on to post 249-9 and bowl Fawley out for 134.
Mid-table South Wilts are without chief run scorer Joe Cranch, above, and call up 17-year old Jack Stearman, who has scored recent back-to-back Hampshire League centuries.
Fair Oak: Gwynn, Hughes, Kemp, Hockenhull, Smith, Bullough, Oxley, McKenzie, Featherstone, Stewart, Mash.
South Wilts II: R Pittman, Weld, Stearman, Pearce, S Pittman, Kidd, Fisher, Marc Burton, Wade, Matt Burton, Ghauri.
Hambledon and Bashley (Rydal) seconds, the two sides immediately behind Fair Oak in the log, collide at Ridge Meadow.
The Dons narrowly lost their opener to Fair Oak, but have won their last four games. Bashley have the Van Wyke brothers, Jay and Pierre both injured.
Hambledon: Bond, Barnard, Chakrabarti, A Willoughby, Glanfield, Le Clerq, O Willoughby, Harding, Turner, Beagley, Chapman.
Bashley (Rydal) II: Underwood, S Ridley, Vaughan, P Morris, Anstee, S Morris, Lewis, Grierson, Taylor, Read, Eede.
Josh McCoy is predicting a competitive derby as Purbrook take on newly-promoted Portsmouth & Southsea at the Heath, the hosts having won two of their three opening games, only losing to second placed Hambledon.
And McCoy is backing his team to secure another victory in what promises to be an exciting contest.
“This has all the makings of a cracking game,’ said the Purbrook skipper. “It will be a good challenge for us because our opponents are a strong and confident outfit.
“They are still trying to find their feet in this league, so hopefully we can put them under a lot of pressure in the opening 15 overs and kick on from there.
“Things have gone well for us so far, although, I would like to see us win games a little more comfortably. Both our wins have come in tight matches. It does show we are prepared to battle right to the end, though.
“At Havant, it all got a bit sweaty but we managed to reach our target in the final over. Our bowling and fielding have been good so far, but we need to improve our batting. We need someone to go on and score big runs. If we can win this game then it will put us in a good position to push on.
Purbrook make one enforced change – with Matt McGlinchey coming in for the unavailable Ollie Runswick, thereby giving McCoy an extra off-spin option.
Portsmouth & Southsea will arrive at the Heath keen to improve on their poor start – with just one win under their belt so far.
Vice-captain Matt Benfield is not unduly worried by the lack of success, though, saying “It is still very early days and it is not the end of the world,’ he said. ‘We have had a tough start, playing three of the top teams. The camp remains quite confident and we are back to full strength.”
Gosport Borough are boosted by the return of the Harrop brothers against Havant II at Privett Park.
Havant II: G Ransley, Galliers, Clark, Mattison, Ruston, A Ransley, Jerry, Turk, Carter, Martin, Davies.
Beaten in all four games to far, Fawley are desperate for a win, but make the short trip to struggling neighbours Lymington II without the Earl brothers, Callum and Elliott.
Lymington beat Havant II in their opener, but have lost all four subsequent games and lie second from bottom. "We are not a bad side, we are just not performing," says Lymington skipper Ollie Kelly.
Fawley: Smith, K Earl, A Parratt, B Parratt, Kahajat Sharma, Kumodak Sharma, Freeman, Leach, Coutts, Coxall, Ward.
Lymington II: Kelly, Agha, Sutherland, Barton, Whyte, Moors C, Wickramasinghe, Royan, Smith, Layman, Shore
