South Wilts are back in the mix for potential qualification for the final stages of the Southern Premier League Cup. They moved into third place in the West Premier/1 group with a 17-run win over Totton & Eling at Southern Gardens.
Beating promoted Division 1 outfit Totton & Eling proved far from straightforward for South Wilts, who slumped to 38-4 with Jack Mynott, Peter Rowe, James Hayward and Ben Draper all perishing cheaply.
Fortunately, teenage left-hander Jack Stearman (37) got his head down and played a timely support role with the emerging Raff Hussey, whose 73 (which included two sixes and eight fours) enabled South Wilts to reach 171 all out.
Totton were back in the front seat again after Ollie Thomas (30) and Owen Morris (40) had shared a 50-plus stand and Bright Mugochi (23) had taken the score to 103-2.
But then Totton collapsed in quiet astonishing fashion – five wickets falling without a solitary run being scored.   A threatening 103-2 had become 103-7 in the space of ten amazing minutes !
Matt Burton (4-22) and former Devizes spinner Tom Grant (3-19) did the damage before the tail wagged and Totton were bowled out for 154.
