St Cross Symondians seconds are off to a flier, the five-wicket win over Trojans at the Green Jackets Ground being their third successive Southern Premier League Division 2 victory.
Promoted in 2016, they finished third last season, but are already on the coat tails of early season pacemakers Basingstoke & North Hants II at the top.
The Trojans match took a dramatic turn after Syed Mahmood (51) and Dan Babidge (49) had eased the Stoneham visitors from an uncertain 28-2 to 138-2 with a century partnership.
But then Trojans fell to pieces, the last eight wickets tumbling for only 38 runs and the side to 176 al out.
Alex Woolvine (3-37) and Matt Perry-Lewis (2-33) prompted the collapse.
St Cross made an awful start, losing former Hampshire batsman Jason Laney and Jamie Aldridge with only six runs on the board.
But Paul Hawkins (31) and Ben Adams (46) – sibling brother of Hampshire’s Jimmy Adams – steadied the ship to take the St Cross reply to 91-3.
Trojans took two more wickets, but Robbie Hadfield (38 not out) and the experienced Graham Barrett (22 not out) ensured no further mishaps and got St Cross to a winning 177-5.
Totton & Eling are fastened to the Southern Premier League Division 2 basement after local rivals Paultons crushed them by 124 runs at Whitemoor Lane.
They were in the game at one point after youngster Liam Carty (3-31) and Dan Collier (3-48) reduced Paultons to 119-7 (Wayne Lockey 37).
But the Paultons’ lower order responded with Peter Lamb’s late 38 not out complementing Nathan Feltham (20) and Jack Murrell (28) and lifting the hosts to 217-9.
Totton keeled over, 61-1 fast becoming 93 all out as nine wickets fell for 32 runs, Murrell taking 4-15.
Tichborne Park tumbled to 90 all out and a crushing 153-run defeat by Basingstoke & North Hants seconds, who are chasing a second consecutive promotion.
Basingstoke’s batsmen made hay in the sun with second wicket pair Chris Froud (63) and Callum Coombs (51) providing the platform for a competitive 243-7 (Max Harsham 34).
Evergreen Matt Thankachan (4-20) help send Tichborne to 90 all out and a third defeat in four matches.
All 20 wickets fell for 238 runs at Rowlands Avenue, where Waterlooville narrowly defended 121 to beat Rowledge (117, David Lloyd 27) by four runs, Sri Lankan Ash Silva taking 5-17.
