Seventeen year old twin Alex Turner struck his second century of the season for Southern Premier League Division 3 pacemakers Bashley (Rydal) against Hambledon – with an impressed former Essex captain Paul Prichard looking on !
Turner hit 112 (two sixes and 12 fours) as Bashley greedily piled up 323-6 and, after sharing a 140-run start with twin James (44), he enjoyed Prichard’s company during a second wicket stand of 79.
His century was rewarded with a debut call-up for Dorset’s Minor Counties Championship victory over Cheshire in midweek.
Early season SPL3 pacemakers Hambledon were probably taken aback when they saw the 54-year old Prichard (First Class career record 25,000 runs plus) warming up with Bashley when they pitched up at the BCG.
He joined the New Forest club several weeks ago with the aim of playing some cricket with his son Louis – and earned his spurs having made an unbeaten century on his Hampshire League Regional Division 1 West debut for Bashley’s fourths against Burley second team !
Predictably, Prichard also filled his boots, with 59 against Hambledon, after which Sam Kennett plundered an unbeaten 63.
What faint prospect Hambledon had of winning disappeared with a new-ball blast from George Wilson (4-46), which saw the visitors plunge to 81-6 before Australian Luke Barber (66) and Ian Turner, with 52 not out, saw them finish with a respectable 216 all out.
Turner, earlier conceded only 15 runs off his ten overs. The other six Hambledon bowlers went for 284 !
In the other Division 3 match, Hythe & Dibden trimmed Tichborne Park by three wickets, chasing down 132 (Craig Stow 4-10). Tom Gates hit 42.
