Alton went top. Sparsholt went down. Alton's Scott Myers and Sparsholt teen Josh Williams hit centuries for their respective sides on an eventful run laden day at the Norman Edwards Ground.
Some 573 runs were scored, Alton's 61-run win nudging them top of Southern Premier Division 1 courtesy of overnight leaders Sarisbury Athletic being dethroned by lowly New Milton. The Brewers now lead the field by a solitary point, with two to play.
Abhay Gonella (71) anchored the Alton innings and set the platform for Myers to blaze 18 fours in a 69-ball 100, aided by Freddie Egleston's unbeaten 59. Alton made 317-5.
Ten-man Sparsholt found it difficult to plug the holes in the outfield on their compact Locks Lane ground and, when they batted, dropped to 129-7.
Josh Williams, left, however, got stuck in and, having come in at three, went on to score a maiden 121, including two sixes and 19 fours. Late help from Tom Ley (30) and Greg Whiting (35*) took Sparsholt to 256, Toby Salmon and spinner Nathan Vincent shared six wickets.
