Isolated in Guernsey for almost two years due to the pandemic, Jeremy Frith hasn’t been able to play any cricket for Sparsholt since August 2019.
But it was if nothing had changed when he made his first appearance of the season in the Winchester derby with St Cross Symondians II, which Sparsholt won by 96 runs.
Frith top scored with 49 in Sparsholt’s 219-6 before taking 5-23 to send St Cross slithering to 123 all out and a step closer to relegation from Southern Premier Division 1.
He took control of proceedings from the start by sharing a 77-run opening stand with Dan Sumner (40) before helping Lewis Mitchard (33) take the score on to 122-1 before he was run out, one shy of his half-century.
A quick fire 42 by Stuart Taylor and several big hits from Liam Doran took Sparsholt to 219-6.
Josh Williams (-22) struck two early blows, leaving former Hampshire batsman Jason Laney (51) to fight a lone battle.
Once he fell at 79-4, the end was nigh for St Cross, who fell to 123 all out and a ninth defeat in 11 outings.
