UNDER-16 indoor cricket at the Ageas Bowl has followed the Aussie trend by introducing a coloured ball into its NatWest Championship matches.
A pink ball was used for the inaugural Day/Night Test Match between Australia and New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval and was voted a big hit.
Now Under-16 organisers have also gone ‘pink’ and used the new ball for the first time in the most recent set of matches.
One talented youngster who didn’t have any problem seeing it was Totton & Eling spin all-rounder Ethan Taylor, pictured, who hit a half-century for the New Forest district team against rampant Hook & Newnham Hurricanes.
The North Hampshire side won both their matches and are contesting the league leadership with fellow newcomers Compton & Chandler’s Ford.
Results –
Hook & Newnham Basics 138-0 (Doran 27*, Hewetson-Brown 27*, Taylor 27*, Hall 25*)
New Forest 107 (Taylor 50, Armstrong 2-21)
Hook & Newnham Basics won by 31 runs.

Winchester & District 124 (McCarthy 36, Hewetson-Brown 3-17, Doran 2-35)
Hook & Newnham Basics 125-3 (Doran 32*, Hewetson-Brown 26, Taylor 24)
Hook & Newnham Basics won by three wickets.

Winchester & District 130-2 (St Quinton 26*, Williams 24, Middleton 23)
New Forest 132-5 (Millar 18*, Spencer 18*, Carty 16, Middleton 2-28)
New Forest won by one wicket.
