Champions Compton & Chandler’s Ford hit 24 off the last over and two runs off the final ball to tie their NatWest Under-16 Indoor League match against Basingstoke & North Hants at the Ageas Bowl.
They redeemed themselves from an undistinguished session with the ball when Jovan Dhariwal (39) and Jimmy Khan (25) began to chase down Basingstoke’s 143-3.
But at 99-1 and only three overs left, CCF were distinct outsiders.
Needing 24 to win off the last over, Compton scored nine off three balls, but when Dhariwal hit a straight six the odds swung their way. Two runs off last ball tied the match.
Basingstoke had earlier played poorly against the New Forest and lost by five wickets, Ben Firrell’s unbeaten 33 being to no avail as the district side overhauled their 107-5.
Compton, still below their best, defended 121 to beat the Forest by 20 runs, Dhariwal against shining with 32 and a tidy 2-19.
