Hampshire teenager Scott Currie will return home from South Africa with an ICC Under-19 World Cup medal after helping England thrash Sri Lanka by 152 runs in the Plate final in Benoni.
He took 1-31 in six overs as Sri Lanka crashed to 127 all out after Warwickshire's Dan Mousley (111) and Worcester prospect Jack Haynes (68) had underpinned England's towering 279-7.
Currie, who finished the tournament with eight poles, grabbed his solitary Plate (8th place) final wicket, trapping Galle left-arm spin all-rounder Sudeera Thilakaratne leg before with a slower delivery.
The Poole Town raised all-rounder, who will begin a season-long rookie contract at the Ageas Bowl when he returns home, didn't play in the opening two defeats by Australia and the West Indies that ended England's tournament proper hopes, but played in all the subsequent wins over Nigeria, Japan, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
